Key Information

Reading:

Children will read with an adult at least once a week as part of our guided reading carousel and Bug Club Comprehension scheme in Heron Class.  Over the course of the week, children have the opportunity to participate in pre-reading activities such as learning new vocabulary, practise their reading fluency and answer literal and inferential questions.  They are encouraged to make predictions as well as strong links and connections too.  Whilst guided reading books are kept in school, pupils will bring home a banded reading book and also a book of their own choice from the library.

We encourage all children to bring their reading books and yellow diaries into school every day and ask children to get into good reading habits, reading 5 times a week. This could be reading ebooks on Bug Club, comics, magazines and newspapers, non-fiction books and poetry, as well as fiction.

I would be grateful if you could remind your child to fills= in their reading log and change their home reader when they arrive at school in the morning. I will do this too!

Home Learning:

Home learning helps children to build good study habits, reinforce and consolidate key knowledge and  skills, and prepares them for the move to secondary school. Every Friday,  I will set home learning activities on Showbie to be completed for the following Thursday. Home learning will consist of a '4 for 4 plus one more' and also one piece of English or maths.  Thank you in advance for your support.

PE/Games:

Each half term our PE days will be shared on Class Dojo. Pupils need to come into school dressed in the correct Adlington PE kit.

Please ensure all uniform (including coats), PE kits and water bottles are clearly named. Thank you for your help!
