What can Adlington Primary School offer my child?
At Adlington Primary School we believe that all of our children deserve the highest quality education and opportunities and all of our teachers and support staff have regular training to ensure that they provide excellent support to our children with SEND. We also work in partnership with a number of specialists to provide expert support.
We have our own speech and language therapist who works in school alongside our school staff, providing specialist speech and language support for our children. We also employ a specialist inclusion teacher who provides specialist support for all of our children with SEND. Kate our specialist play therapist works in school on a weekly basis and frequently supports some of our children with SEND.
Mrs Birkin, our Headteacher/SENCO, is a qualified specialist teacher with a specialism in dyslexia. She holds associate membership of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA) and has the qualifications necessary to undertake specialist assessments and diagnose dyslexia.
We also work with other consultants from a variety of specialisms to ensure the highest standard of provision and support for all of our children who have special needs.
What do I do if I am concerned about my child's progress?
We have an open door policy so please do make contact with your child's class teacher or directly with our SENCO to share your concerns. You will be kept up to date about your child's progress throughout the year via parents evenings, weekly parent drop-in's and conversations with your child's class teacher. If your child is on our special needs register and has a targeted learning plan (TLP), their teacher will meet with your termly to review their progress towards their individual targets and set next steps.
We hold regular coffee mornings for our families who have children with SEND and this enables them to come together and have time to chat with our SENCO. We invite a variety of speakers to our termly coffee morning, and match these to parental requests. Our next coffee morning is due to take place on 8th May 2025 and Mrs Knight will be speaking about the support that she provides to our children through her role as an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA).
The Graduated Response
We follow a graduated response to any concerns raised by either parent, child or class teacher. This is outlined in the diagram below:
