Look what we've been learning! 2021

Sentence Stacking

We recently enjoyed using 'The Write Stuff' approach to write our own stories.  Joe Todd-Stanton's 'The Secret of Black Rock' provided the perfect inspiration for our seaside tales!  Enjoy reading  our 'Sentence Stacking' board.

We really enjoyed practising our dance skills outside with Gemma Stokes from CSSP. We learnt the beginning of a routine in just one lesson!

We have started samba lessons this half term with Mr Fitton. We have also started ‘The Write Stuff’ approach to writing. ‘Experience Days’ are supporting our writing and helping us to develop our vocabulary. Year 3 are studying rocks in science too

Adlington Primary School Turns 180 years old!

Kingfisher Class has really enjoyed our focus on local history this term whilst celebrating the school's very special 180th birthday.

We have used lots of historical sources such as maps, plans, school log books and admission records to find out more about life in the past.  David at the Archives Office even showed us artefacts from the strong rooms when we visited.

We focused our learning on the world of work and thought about some of the jobs that the parents of pupils at Adlington might have done at the time the school was opened.  We investigated what it would have been like to work down the pit or in a mill.

One of our favourite parts of the learning was our celebration event.  We dressed up in clothes from different decades and Kingfishers looked amazing in their '80s costumes. We loved welcoming visitors in to school to see our learning and the Victorian classroom.  We enjoyed a special party lunch and played lots of traditional parlour games too like Blind Man's Buff and Wink Murder.
