Lancashire Farm Education Centre

Lancashire Farm Education Centre

During our visit, children took part in plenty of activities enhancing learning which has taken place in the classroom. In Geography we had learnt about renewable energy sources and children got to met Bob the robot, who pushes the silage back to the cows and is charged by solar energy.

Children had opportunities to see how robot voluntary milking systems work and how farmers can use apps to monitor data. We explored adaptations of cows and why they have long eyelashes/ tail, why they have a split hoof and why they have long tongues.

After lunch, to check the ground was the correct pH for growing grass, we used pH strips. Then, we worked as a team to make salted and unsalted butter. Children were eager to taste the butter on their toast the next day!
