British Values

At Adlington Primary School we recognise, promote and teach Modern British Values through our curriculum and enrichment activities which are interwoven into our everyday timetables. All staff strive to ensure that our pupils leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

The British Values are:

•    Democracy
•    Rule of Law
•    Individual Liberty
•    Mutual Respect
•    Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

DfE definition (2014)

‘Schools should promote the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs’

Each half-term we have a focus 'value' and our weekly assembly thinks about the value in more detail. This half-term we have been thinking about tolerance. Every Tuesday, Fr Grahame from St Paul's Church in Adlington visits school and helps us to think more about our key value of the half-term and how we can take this learning into our lives.

Thursday class assemblies focus upon a different British value and this is linked to what is happening in the news and the United Nations Articles of Rights. Have a look at the document below to see what we have learning about.
