Homework will be sent each Friday and should be returned the following Thursday. Homework will consist of spellings, times-tables and an activity based on learning completed in class (English, Maths, Science, Grammar etc.) Spellings and time-tables will be tested on a Monday morning.
Your child's spellings will be sent home in their spelling book. They are able to practise these three times using the folded pages. Children will have the opportunity during class spelling sessions to learn these spellings too.
Children will also be tested on their times tables on a Monday morning. We will consolidate our learning on the 2, 5 and 10 times tables from year 2. We will then move onto the 3, 4 and 8 times tables.
Reading in KS2 is carried out in a slightly different way to how it is carried out in KS1, your child will still read twice a week with an adult in school. The book that is read in school will stay at school, your child will bring home an ‘extra reader’ of their own choice. The children are encouraged to change their ‘extra reader’ on a regular basis, it is their responsibility to do so. Children must bring their reading packets to school every day and practise their reading each night. I will be running a reading scheme this year to encourage children to read at home. Please ensure that you have signed your child’s reading record so that we are able to see when they have read.
We will be developing our comprehension skills throughout our guided reading sessions focusing on our inference and retrieval skills.
PE this term will be on a Monday morning and Wednesday afternoon. The children are very lucky to be taking part in Judo and Chorley Schools Sports Partnership will be working with them too! Please ensure that your child has both their indoor and outdoor PE kits in school at all times.
