School Meals

We are delighted to have been accredited with  FLAGSHIP status by Lancashire Healthy Schools. We work in conjunction with Lancashire School Meals to provide children with healthy balanced school lunches. Recently, the school kitchen has been refurbished to enable hot meals to be cooked on the premises. Parents have the option to provide a packed lunch. At lunchtime, whether taking a hot meal or bringing a packed lunch, children are rewarded for making healthy choices.

AFTER SCHOOL CARE

We have on site provision for after school care from 3.15 to 6pm every night.

This is an Ofsted registered provision.

A range of activities available and snacks provided.

Please contact Jennifer Almond on 01257 474211 for more details.

Child Protection

In school we follow the Child Protection Guidelines issued by Lancashire County Council. A copy of these is held in school and can be seen on request. We have regular visits from our Education Welfare Officer who follows up any concerns.

Equal Opportunities and Race Equality

The school offers opportunities to all children regardless of race, gender or disability. Positive action is taken to avoid the development of stereotypical views and attitudes. Prejudice or harassment linked to race, gender or disability is not tolerated. All incidents of a racial nature are dealt with severely and are reported to the governing body.

Transition to Secondary Education

The children leave at the end of Year 6 (age 11) to one of the local high schools. We have extremely good links with all our high schools. We inform parents of various open evenings that take place throughout the year. The children are invited to partake in a variety of exciting activities at High Schools in a range of subjects from Year 5 onwards. These include science days, quizzes, sporting activities, ICT and drama events. This helps our children make a smooth transition to the next phase of their education.

The safety of our children is vital. When visiting school please report to the school office entrance where you can sign in and be issued with a visitors badge. During the course of the school day all doors are inaccessible from outside. Access to school may only be obtained by ringing the office doorbell and waiting for the security lock to be released. No child is allowed to leave school grounds without permission. Adults wishing to take a child from the school must seek authorisation from the class or head teacher.

Bullying Policy - Zero Tolerance

Adlington Primary School is part of the National Anti-Bullying Community. Children are always encouraged to tell an adult in school if they feel that they are being bullied. This is always followed up immediately. Bullying of any type will not be tolerated.

PSHCE

Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education

PSHCE is at the centre of our curriculum. Children take part in “Circle Time” when they are encouraged to discuss worried and concerns they may have with their class teacher. Staff are trained to act upon any issues arising. We are part of the National initiative “SEAL” (Social and Emotional aspects of Learning) which develops well being of each individual child.

Active Mark

This year the school has been awarded the National “Active Mark”. To attain this, schools must offer at least 2 hours high quality physical education within the curriculum and provide a range of extracurricular activities. They must also compete in a range of interschool competitions. We believe that fit, healthy children are happier and achieve higher academic standards
